Igor Girkin, better known as Strelkov, popular Russian hero of the 2014 Donbass rebellion, and symbolic leading rival to Vladimir Putin, has just been sentenced to 4 years of 'general regime' prison, on secret charges after a secret trial, although the reading of the sentence was public.
After the sentence was read, protestors outside the court who held up signs of support for Strelkov, were arrested 'for violating protocols of the covid pandemic'
Russians are horrified, social media Telegram is filled with pessimistic shock at the moral downfall of Russia
Regarding Russian opposition leader Strelkov, and his being sentenced to 4 years in jail on 'secret' charges, as in the comment above
Strelkov's supporters had collected enough signatures to put him on the presidential election ballot for the March contest with Putin
As part of the election procedure, the paperwork needed to be signed and witnessed by Strelkov himself ... but the notary was blocked from visiting Strelkov in his jail cell, so Strelkov's name on the Russian ballot has been cancelled due to this 'technicality'
Without cheering for the West ... one can say it seems a callous regime in the Kremlin
Prigozhin's 'March on Moscow' in June 2023, when - Putin fled in a plane to St Petersburg - Much of the Russian military was standing aside - And yet Prigozhin lost his nerve, and backed off for a 'deal'
