René Simard, born in 1961 in Chicoutimi, Quebec, is a pop singer, chiefly popular in the 1970s.

He was discovered and managed by Guy Cloutier

His sister Nathalie was also managed by Cloutier.

In 2004, Cloutier was convicted of sexually assaulting Nathalie when she was a child.

Michel Vastel's 2005 book on the case, Briser Le Silence (Breaking the Silence), alleged that René co-operated with Cloutier in trying to hide the assaults.

Simard has been married to TV hostess Marie-Josée Taillefer since 1987.

In 2014, Simard was named a Member of the Order of Canada "for his contributions to the development of Quebec culture as a performer, host and director."[1]

For what it's worth, René Simard was taken under the benevolent wing (?) of Liberace, with whom he lived for a time during his mid teens as his international career was beginning. I'm going from memory on this, so someone else will undoubtedly be better informed about the details.

The Academy Awards for Quebec films were called the Jutra Awards, named for Claude Jutra, from 1999 until February 2016. From Wikipedia: "Canadian organization Québec Cinéma awards an annual cinema award that recognizes talent and achievement in the mainly francophone feature film industry in Quebec. Until 2016, it was known as the Jutra Award (Prix Jutra, with the ceremony called La Soirée des Jutra) in memory of influential Quebec film director Claude Jutra, but Jutra's name was withdrawn from the awards following the publication of allegations that Jutra was involved with pedophilia."

"Cloutier l`aurait forcer à avoir des relations avec le pianiste Liberace."

The same scummy Cloutier forced Rene to have sex with Liberace. Simard's marriage was a sham arranged by Cloutier to hide the appearances. Cloutier himself sexually abused Rene.

More here, its a whole thread in French and has 90 pages:

here is a Daytona newspaper article on his appearing in shows with Liberace on tour. UGH! That poor kid. He was fodder for 1970s grist mill.

I had not heard of this family before but some simple Google searches later the foul pedo "Cloutier" (may he rot in hell) used the Simard father's alcoholism against him to get rid of his influence over his three successful children and that is why at 18 Rene Simard was put in charge of his younger sister's estate, 100% incapable of that role, and as a result mismanaged she lost a lot of money she earned as a child. The whole thing stinks as usual -- love of money and fame and power means innocent people suffer. Same story different cast of characters. The sister cannot blame her brother at that point he was so enmeshed with the insanity of being in show business (see also politics where they do the same thing to people) he had to do as he was told even if it was against her best interests. It was all he knew being a small boy from a small town and removed from his parents influence he was a pawn in a game. Thanks for the blogpost. Interesting. Canada and their wholesome image and anti-hate laws have their hands dirty just as every other country does.
