During the Reagan administration, Abrams played a role in the Iran-Contra affair.
Abrams was convicted of withholding information from Congress during the Iran-Contra investigation
Abrams pushed for military aid to the regime of Guatemalan Gen. Efrain Rios Montt, a dictator who was later convicted of genocide and crime against humanity.
Abrams reportedly supported the attempted coup against Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez in 2002, when Abrams was a member of the National Security Council of President George W. Bush.
