Sir Alan Lascelles was King George VI's private secretary from 1943-52.
Lascelles, in his diaries, entitled King's Counsellor, wrote that, in June 1944, General Georges Catroux, of the Free French forces, had asked the British government's Alfred Duff Cooper "to see a certain French officer, urgently."
The diary entry for 21 June 1944 continues: "This man, who is a very big noise in the French intelligence service, told Duff that he had very reliable information that Hitler had fled from Berlin to a villa near Perpignan, where he is now hiding and waiting a favourable opportunity to slip across the Spanish frontier."
Why might Hitler have wanted to leave Germany in 1944?
According to Lascelles, Germany talked of peace terms as early as 1943.
In his diary entry for 27 december 1943, Lascelles wrote: "Hughe Knatchbull-Hugessen telegraphed yesterday from Ankara that Numan (Turkish Foreign Minister) had told him ... that the German Minister in Bucharest had called (in uniform) on the Romanian Foreign Minister, and told him Germany would accept peace on the following terms: they would surrender fleet, submarines, merchant fleet, air force, disarm completely, evacuate all occupied territory, undertake never to ask for colonies, and leave Europe to be organised according to the wishes of the Allies.
"The only condition they asked for is economic freedom for Germany, but this is to be arranged as found suitable by the Allies."
In 1961, "unarmed Algerian Muslims demonstrating in central Paris against a discriminatory curfew were beaten, shot, garotted and even drowned by police and special troops.

Yves Bonnet, a former intelligence chief, says of Merah: "He was known to the DCRI... because he had a handler in domestic intelligence."
According to intelligence sources that spoke to Il Foglio, France'sGeneral Directorate of External Security obtained entry into Israel for Merah in 2010, presenting him as an informant.
Three months before the Normandy church attack, Mr. Petitjean worked full time at Chambery airport, as a baggage handler, and got through police checks 'easily' to secure the job.

Neighbours in Aix-les-Bains point out that in 2015 Petitjean had passed his 'Bac' school exams, and was known as being 'friendly, open and part of neighbourhood life.'
Meanwhile, it has been revealed by French media that "France's security services were warned four days ago that a terror attack was imminent and were issued with a picture of the second knifeman."
French TV station RTLsay that the photograph, along with details of the strike, were sent out by a 'foreign service', presumably Mossad, along with a serious warning.
Allegedly, Adel Kermiche "had sex with several Muslim girls whom he 'married' in Islamic ceremonies but repudiated a few days later, according to friends.

ISIS, which is run by the security services, has claimed responsibility for the filmed murder of a priest in the Normandy church, in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray near Rouen, on 26 July 2016.
Reportedly, an 84-year-old priest, Jacques Hamel, was murdered in the church by two knife wielding attackers, who entered the church, just after 9 am.

One of the alleged attackers, 19-year-old Frenchman Adel Kerminche, lived locally. Adel Kerminche had an electronic tag having been jailed in France for trying to travel to Syria.
Reportedly, Adel K's bail terms allowed him to be unsupervised between 8.30am and 12.30pm.
The attack took place between 9am and 11am.

The two alleged attackers, who were both known to the French authorities as suspected terrorists, were shot dead by police marksmen as they emerged from the building, allegedly shouting 'Allahu Akbar'.
The French authorities have arrested a third man over the attack - a 17-year-old man known as HB, believed to be a relative of Adel K.
The Catholic church involved was on a terrorist 'hit list' found in the apartment of a suspected ISIS extremist in April 2016.
A nun called Sister Danielle said of the priest: 'They forced him to his knees. He wanted to defend himself. And that's when the tragedy happened.
'They recorded themselves. They did a sort of sermon around the altar, in Arabic. It's a horror.'
An anonymous woman, talking to Le Figaro, said of the attackers: 'They came suddenly. They took space. They spoke Arabic. I saw a knife.
'I left when they began to attack Father Jacques. I do not even know if they realised that I was leaving.'
A local source said: 'A third nun escaped and raised the alarm, and anti-terrorists officers were on the scene within minutes.'
Former Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin said he feared 'everything is being done to trigger a war of religions.'
