I grew up with this. To be honest it was terrifying, so I went away (sent away) to a fundamentalist boarding school and though I didn't have the rape, I walked in on one of the head youth guys in the process of anal sex with a freshman. Wasn't sure if was consensual and got outta there fast.
He really sang his heart out for Jesus in church and I would feel creepy in services. Very masculine uber type guy, and the girls would swoon. They controlled everything and had a bit of mind control aspects also, (world would end soon and beast would rule)
Ended up being sent home after getting in a lot of fights, the wierdest thing was roommates were very twisted.
Was told I was demon laden and going to hell daily.
Really tres bizarre. The trauma lingers and informs everything in that light.
Thanks for posting this as a lot of people that grow up in USA deal with the after effects of Fundamentalist Xtian religion.
