During WW II, Switzerland was between a rock and a hard place. By some very strange Nazi-German decision, Switzerland was allowed to maintain a railway connection out of Geneva to Vichy France. This helped us to maintain imports through France from overseas through Spain. Nevertheless the Axis powers surrounded Switzerland completely and controlled exports and imports. The Allied powers controlled the sea lanes, and Switzerland had to comply also to their stipulations, in order to get the necessary transit licences for cargo shipments. There are persistent rumors, that the City of London stipulated even minutiae of the Swiss rationing system.
Understand, the big boys used Switzerland to provide Nazi-Germany with hard currency in order to run the war according the script , through the Rothschild-controlled Bank of International Settlements in Basle. See
