THE MEANING OF LIFE



There is a belief that life is a learning process.

Everyone has their 'dark side', which needs to be put right.

Think of 'a loving and caring individual'.

This 'CARER' can be nurturing, supportive, sympathetic, loving and reliable.

But, if you know this person well, you may be aware that sometimes they still have lessons to learn in life.

Sometimes, they may be "bossy, critical, interfering, perfectionist and self righteous...

"And jealous and small-minded... and smug and arrogant, especially toward authority figures or institutions."

Meaning of the number 6.



Sometimes this CARER can be "annoyingly self-righteous and an intolerant..."

Sometimes they "suffer from anxiety and insecurity, even phobias." 

Sometimes they are self-centered and egotistical at heart.

Sometimes they get very angry "if those at the receiving end of their care do not show the attention that is craved."

There is a belief that life is a learning process.

Rees believes that six numbers shape our universe.

If these numbers were different, there would be no life.

Rees, an atheist, believes that there are likely to be many universes and that it was just by chance that our universe had the right numbers.

Michael Hayes, at New Dawn magazine, wrote about 'The Hermetic Universe'.

Hayes has been puzzling about the meaning of life.

Hayes introduces the 'Hermetic Code'.

It's all about numbers and their relation to everything from music to religion.

Hayes refers to pi which is 22/7, the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter.

"22/7 is ... an expression of three consecutive octaves of resonance. An octave ... comprises seven fundamental notes: Do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti. The eighth note, Do, a repeat of the first but with double the pitch frequency, is the first note of the second octave. Accordingly the eighth note of the second octave – again, Do – is the first note of the third. Taken together these three octaves contain twenty-two notes...

According to Hayes:

Three, the number of the Trinity, is the number of octaves encoded in pi.

Four is the number of base-notes (Dos) in three consecutive octaves.

Seven is the number of intervals between the notes of the major scale.

Eight is the number of individual notes in the major scale.

Twenty-two is the number of notes in three consecutive scales or octaves.

The three octaves incorporated in pi are each sub-divisible into three octaves apiece, giving an inner formula of nine octaves, or sixty-four notes.

So eight is the constant, and sixty-four, is the square of it.

Hayes calls 'this musical pattern of symmetry' the Hermetic Code, after the Greek god of wisdom, Hermes.

The number three is important throughout the universe: the three main constituents of atoms – protons, electrons and neutrons, the three primary colours of the spectrum of light....

CARL JUNG, SEX, THE DARK SIDE, JESUS

The Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung was the son of a Protestant pastor.

Carl Jung's mother spent a considerable amount of time in her bedroom, where she said that spirits visited her at night.[3]

Jung wrote:

"As a boy I was the victim of a sexual assault by a man I once worshipped." 

(cited in John Kerr's A Dangerous Method).

While married to Emma Rauschenbach, Carl Jung had a relationship with a Jewish girl called Sabina Spielrein, who was one of his patients.

Jung found that Spielrein's mental illness was triggered by the sexual arousal she felt as a child when she was spanked naked by her father.

Jung took to spanking Spielrein.

In 1899, 17-year-old Emma Rauschenbach, one of Switzerland's wealthiest heiresses, fell in love with Carl Jung, 'a penniless doctor with a peasant background.'

Emma's father had syphilis.

Carl's sexual relationship with Wolff was tolerated by Emma.

Jung wrote to Freud as follows:

"My veneration for you has something of the character of a ‘religious' crush.

"This abominable feeling comes from the fact that as a boy I was the victim of a sexual assault by a man I once worshipped (as Jung now worshiped Freud)..."

Carl Jung spoke about accepting our dark side.

I used to be concerned that this meant to be equally dark and equally good, but not so.

When we accept our dark side we can forgive ourselves and then we can forgive others for their failings too.

When we accept our dark side we don't act out on it, we just understand, it and not hate ourselves so much because of it.

Then we find peace, and peace is bliss.

Think of anger, greed, fear and lust.

This 'dark side', or 'shadow', is usually hidden within our 'subconscious'.

For example, there would be no marriages or children without there being a little 'lust'.

It is extreme or out-of-control lust that is evil.

If we get angry about injustice, that is no bad thing, so long as we remain rational and do not go berserk.

Our rulers want us to be excessively angry, greedy, frightened and lustful.

However, there is also a 'good side' to all of us.


Fr. John A. Sanford, in his 1970 book The Kingdom Within, sees Jesus's instruction "love your enemies" as an attempt to help us deal with all the parts of the whole, the 'dark side' and the 'good side', without hurting anyone.

Professor Wallace Clift has looked at Jung's view of humanity as "a story of developing consciousness".

Clift sees this as being similar to Jesus's idea of the 'Holy Spirit' working to improve us.

Jung called the 'dark side' the 'Shadow' and he reckoned that it comes from our animal ancestors.

Jung wrote: ‘"The shadow is that hidden, repressed, for the most part inferior and guilt-laden personality whose ultimate ramifications reach back into the realm of our animal ancestors and so comprise the whole historical aspect of the unconscious."


When the 'dark side' emerges, for example in a War I or in a divorce, many people look for scapegoats.

We demonise our enemy.

There is a tendency to blame everything that goes wrong on Moslems or Jews or Blacks or Gays or Gypsies.

Most people deny their 'shadow', unconsciously 'projecting' it onto others so as to avoid confronting it in oneself.

Each of us should accept that we have a 'dark side' or 'shadow'.

The shadow is most dangerous when it is repressed and projected onto others.

When we will not acknowledge our dark side, we are at risk of becoming mentally ill and starting a war.

The 'saint' should acknowledge his or her 'dark side'.

Jekyll was saintly, but he hid and did not acknowledge his other side, Hyde, who was evil.

Jekyll's personality was split rather than whole.

When the CIA and its friends use their Monarch mind-control programme to brainwash children, they create in the children more than one personality.

One personality may the 'normal' personality and another may be the 'assassin' or sex slave'.


As mentioned above, the 'shadow' or 'dark side' contains some positive qualities.

Fear can be useful, if it keeps us safe.

Jung believed that most of us have lost touch with certain parts of our selves.

Jung believed that we should not try to be 'normal' because that means suppressing our real self, including the 'shadow'.

The healing of the disturbed person comes when they stop trying to be 'normal' and conformist.

We need to accept our 'shadow' and see that it involves some normal instincts and creative impulses.

To be a good Christian you have to be fully aware of the 'shadow'.

Jesus asked us to consider our own faults, before we look at the faults of others.

Jesus had dinner with tax collectors and sinners.

Jesus had his difficult moments.

"And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet as you leave the house or town. Truly, I say to you, it shall be more tolerable on the day of judgement for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town...

Jesus was not necessarily kind to pigs or Greeks.
