Mark Carey is a priest and he is the son of Lord Carey, who was the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Mark Carey was detained at his home after claims that, when he was in his late teens, he sexually abused a female child.

A Durham Police spokesman said: 'A 51-year-old man was arrested ... on suspicion of historical sexual offences. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.'

A Church of England spokesman said: 'A 51-year-old priest in the Diocese of Leeds has been suspended by the Bishop following his arrest by Durham Constabulary concerning allegations of historical abuse.'

In 2016 Lord Carey (George Carey) strongly criticised the Church of England for destroying the reputation of Bishop George Bell over 'unproven' abuse claims.

Lord Carey was reportedly part of a cover-up, which shielded serial sex-abuser Peter Ball (the former bishop of Lewes and Gloucester) from prosecution.[45]

Peter Ball was jailed in 2015 for sex offences.

Islington has been a major centre of child abuse.

In 1998 the spooky George Carey made a public call for the humane treatment of Augusto Pinochet, the former dictator of Chile, who was at the time in custody in the United Kingdom.[11][12]

Carey supports Israel and is opposed to disinvestment in Israel companies.

In 2006, Carey declared that a church motion in favour of disinvestment in a company active in the occupied territories of Israel made him ashamed to be an Anglican.[41]

In 2009, Carey made positive remarks about the arms trade.[42]

Interesting.  I'd heard of the latter of course, from both old-skool Private Eye and the related Paul Foot book referred to on here earlier, but not the former in this context (that I recall).  So I looked him up on Wikipedia, and we must be careful because he's still alive, but the following struck me as an interesting sentence:

On 21 March 2002 Lord Hutton was one of four Law Lords to reject David Shayler's application to use a "public interest" defence as defined in section 1 of the Official Secrets Act 1989 at his trial.

Lord Hutton represented the Ministry of Defence at the inquest into the killing of civil rights marchers on "Bloody Sunday".

Later, he publicly reprimanded Major Hubert O'Neil, the coroner presiding over the inquest, when the coroner accused the British Army of murder, as this contradicted the findings of the Widgery Tribunal.[3]

Hutton also came to public attention in 1999 during the extradition proceedings of former Chilean dictator Gen. Augusto Pinochet.

Pinochet had been arrested in London on torture allegations by request of a Spanish judge.

Five Law Lords, the UK's highest court, decided by a 3-2 majority that Pinochet was to be extradited to Spain.

The verdict was then overturned by a panel of seven Law Lords, including Lord Hutton[4] on the grounds that Lord Hoffmann, one of the five Law Lords, had links to human rights group Amnesty International which had campaigned for Pinochet's extradition.

In 1978 he defended Britain in the European Court of Human Rights when it was found guilty of torturing internees without trial.

He reportedly sentenced 10 men to 1,001 years in prison on the word of "supergrass" informer Robert Quigley, who was granted immunity in 1984.

Lord Hutton was appointed by the Blair government to chair the inquiry on the circumstances surrounding the death of scientist David Kelly.

5. The CIA's terror attacks took place in other European countries from 1965 to 1981.

The USA tried to kill De Gaulle.

The Pope was fully behind the purging of clerics who opposed the rich elite.

Under Chile's General Pinochet, hundreds of thousands Chileans disappeared.

Osama bin Laden, who reportedly was close friends with the CIA and MI6.

7. FBI whistle blower Sibel Edmonds said:

"Between 1996 and 2002, we, the United States, planned, financed, and helped execute every major terrorist incident by Chechen rebels (and the Mujahideen) against Russia.

"Between 1996 and 20002, we, the United States, planned, financed, and helped execute every single uprising and terror related scheme in Xinjiang (aka East Turkistan and Uyhurstan).

"Between 1996 and 2002, we, the United States, planned and carried out at least two assassination schemes against pro-Russian officials in Azerbaijan."
