Sydney Cooke, whose child abuse gang has been linked to the former UK government minister Sir Leon Brittan, who was once the minister responsible for MI5 and police special branch.

The Sunday Mirror reveals that the UK police are aware that top police officers apparently covered up links between Sidney Cooke and the unsolved murders of nine young boys.

A recent Metropolitan Police report into the police handling of the murders "suggests a serious level of corruption apparent in the 1980s and later, which would require ­thorough and serious investigation".

The recent police report only came to light in documents released to the Sunday Mirror under the Freedom of ­Information laws.

Cooke was jailed for Jason Swift's manslaughter in 1989, but was fairly soon released.

Mark Tildesley

Cooke was named as one of the killers of seven-year-old Mark Tildesley but strangely was never charged.

Leslie Bailey identified Cooke as an accomplice in Mark Tildesley's murder.

Leslie Bailey pled guilty to the killing of Mark Tildesley and to the 1985 murder of six-year-old Barry Lewis. 

Bailey died in mysterious circumstances in his jail cell, aged 40, in 1993.

The father of UK pop star Adam Ant, Alfred Leslie Goddard (above left), was reportedly part of Sydney Cooke's child abuse gang.

Goddard's links to the murder gang were revealed by the former Conservative MP Harvey Proctor.

Eventually, the review was released through the Freedom of Information laws.

But, large parts of the review, apparently about Cooke and his gang, had been removed.

The Sunday People understands that one informant apparently said "Cooke and his associates" claimed at least 12 victims, including an "Asian boy".

The UK police have refused to say if Cooke has been questioned about Vishal.

Vishal was last seen near Elm House guesthouse , the boy brothel for top people, reportedly run by the security services.

The kidnappings of Vishal, and other children such as Martin Allen, have been linked to fairgrounds where Cooke worked.

There were two fairs in the area when Vishal vanished.

A police report stated have that the 1984 case of seven-year-old Mark Tildesley, believed murdered by Cooke, may be linked to the Vishal case.

The 2005 police review mentioned the murder of Jason Swift, 14, and Barry Lewis, six, in 1985.

Their bodies were found naked in woods.

Baby P, real name Peter Connelly, died in Haringey, in London, in 2007 after suffering more than 50 injuries.

Baby P was 17 months old when he was killed by Steven Barker, the partner of Baby P's mother, and Barker's child abusing brother Jason Owen.

Baby Peter's mother is Tracey Connelly.

Reportedly, a close male relative of Tracey Connolly, known as 'A', was deeply involved in the Islington children's homes scandal in the 1990s.

As a child, 'A' was a victim of the Islington children's homes child abuse ring.

'A' was later used to recruit children from the Islington children's homes for use by the child abuse ring.

14-year-old Jason Swift, killed in 1985 by a paedophile gang, is believed to have lived in Islington council's Conewood Street home.

Top UK politician Margaret Hodge (née Oppenheimer) , then council leader in Islington, denounced "gutter journalists" who supposedly bribed children to lie about abuse.

Officials who spoke out about the child abuse were sacked.

Sidney Cooke was jailed for the manslaughter of Jason Swift but was quickly released.

Cooke's gang is believed to have killed at least nine children.[2]

Jason Owen, 42, has now changed his name and is calling himself a personal trainer.

Prosecutors decided not to prosecute.

According to relatives, Jason Owen inflicted cigarette burns on his younger brother Steven Barker.

By the time he was 20, Jason Owen had a string of convictions for burglaries, arson and assault.

In 1995 police were asked to investigate allegations that Jason Owen tortured his grandmother.

The charges were dropped after the grandmother died.

In 1999 Jason Owen set fire to his own families house.

A few years later the police were asked to investigate allegations that Jason Owen had tried to kill his sister and burn down her house.

The police were also aware of the case at an early stage.

Reportedly, none of the men were put under surveillance or questioned.

Whistleblowing Social worker Neville Mighty, who had received death threats, named the relative in a report.

Neville Mighty contacted Islington’s then director of children’s services, Lyn Cusack, who is married to a senior policeman.

In June 1992, Mighty was sacked.

Liz Davies, the senior Islington social worker who encouraged Mighty to go public, said:

'We got too close. There were too many powerful people involved.
