On 22 July 2014, UK Prime Minister David Cameron made a secret visit to Scotland's Shetland Islands

Off the the west coast of Shetland there has recently been drilling in an area known as Clair Ridge.

Apparently, an oil find in the Clair Ridge is huge.

BP has refused to speak on the size of the find.

There is a suspicion that BP has discovered "vast" reserves in Clair Ridge and that BP is "withholding disclosure" until after the independence referendum.

BP chief executive Bob Dudley, in the oil magazine Upstream, said of Clair Ridge: 'positive signals are emerging from an ongoing appraisal drilling campaign.'

Speaking at a recent press briefing, Dudley said: "We remain very enthusiastic about Clair Ridge - appraisal wells are looking good. It is helping us to define the structure out there.

"Clair Ridge will be a project once we get it on in the next few years that has the potential to produce until 2050."

Hurricane Energy, the company behind the find, said production tests using a pump achieved a flow rate of 9,800 barrels of oil per day, well above expectations.

Similar results were discovered in another field to the west of Shetland after Whirwind was found to be holding similar volumes of oil.

A report published in March 2014 by Investors Chronicle, which is part of the FT group, described Lancaster and Whirlwind as "major discoveries" and concluded that "abundant new and under-explored plays could yield significant resources."

MAJOR FIND OF OIL - ON SCOTTISH WEST COAST

David Lambie, 89, a former Labour Member of Parliament in Scotland says that there has been a major find of oil and gas on the West Coast of Scotland.

Lambie says it is not being extracted because of UK nuclear submarine operations.

Lambie says that a member of the Conservative Government in the early 1980s leaked information to him about the oil discovery which, Lambie says, the Ministry of Defence, (MoD), has tried to cover-up.

Lambie says: "As soon as the MoD heard about it and realized I was getting my information from a Tory MP and a member of the Government then the whole thing stopped."

British Petroleum (BP) carried out a seismic and geological exploration survey over an area of 92 square miles south of Arran, in the the Firth of Clyde.

British Petroleum, which has very close ties to MI6, say that they have lost the survey data.

West coast of Scotland.

After the oil was found, a UK government minister told the UK Parliament that consultation would be needed with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) due to the "importance of the area for the passage of British and US submarines to and from their bases."

According to Lambie the MoD then blocked any exploration in the area.

Lambie says that independence for Scotland would mean that Scotland could get the oil.

Lambie says: "The oil is still there... The Tory MP who contacted me got hell for leaking the information to me... The Tory MP described the oil identified as a ‘major find’."

Meanwhile the Faslane nuclear submarine base, situated next to Glasgow, continues to leak from time to time, resulting, reportedly, in low life expectancy among even rich Glaswegians.

The nuclear submarine base at Faslane is essentially a US military base.
