Union Cycliste Internationale, the sports cycling world governing body, held its first British gravel event, the Gralloch, in the former mill town of Gatehouse of Fleet, in Dumries and Galloway. 

In 2024,  about 2,000 riders tackled its 70-mile route.

Some Professionals who came for the Gralloch stayed in the Murray Arms. It was here in 1793 that Rabbi Burns wrote  Scots Wha’ Hae.
