Shouldn't be a surprise Sinwar was fluent in Hebrew, after 22 years in Israeli prisons

Spoken Hebrew and Arabic, are roughly as close as English and German, not a huge deal to learn the other if you know one

Tho Israeli prisons have torture and abuse, there has also been access to Israeli TV and learning materials. Sinwar was very intelligent and devoted himself for years to understanding his Israeli enemy, reading and translating their writings.

Palestinian former prisoners have said they rather liked seeing the fractious Israeli Knesset meetings, where Israeli politicians scream at and insult one another, despite general agreement on anti-Palestine policies ... some have said, 'We Arabs need to have something like that, instead of the more traditionally Arab autocratic governments'
