The book SPYCATCHER revealed that the man who ran MI5 from1956-65, Sir Roger Hollis, was, allegedly, a Soviet spy.
Soviet intelligence, at that time, shared intelligence with Israel.

Reportedly, Hollis was part of a spy ring run by Lord Victor Rothschild.

Thatcher was naive then: she still believed in 'Unions bad, services good'. Anyone with any sanity knows that there are good union leaders and bad ones, good services executives and traitorous ones. It was already known that plenty of UK intelligence agents had been Soviet Spies, many of whom emigrated there. Any more of them should not have been a surprise to her.
