Travel website Booking.com leaves hoteliers thousands of dollars out of pocket

As the website boasts about increased revenue, some partners say they have not been paid for months

'In 2023, http://Booking.com was accused of leaving accommodation hosts thousands of pounds out of pocket because of payment delays. 

'Hosts from Scotland,[49] England, Europe,[50] New Zealand,[51] Sweden,[52] Netherland,[53] Denmark,[54] Croatia[55] Hungary,[56] Thailand and Indonesia say they were affected. Some cases are reported from April 2023, and the issue remained active at the end of September. It caused business failures and hardship for operators. 

'Travel bloggers and websites that are paid affiliate payments by http://Booking.com were also affected. Operators affected were seeking payment plus interest, and with http://Booking.com commission waived. The company blamed "unforeseen technical issues".[57]



'On February 12, 2020, the company was included on a list of companies operating in West Bank settlements involved in activities that "raised particular human rights concerns" published by the United Nations Human Rights Council. 

The company was categorized under "the provision of services and utilities supporting the maintenance and existence of settlements".[35][36] The international community considers Israeli settlements built on land occupied by Israel to be in violation of international law.[37][38][39]'

I used Booking.com to book an overseas hotel, but I paid the hotel myself, so obviously there are different policies in place with different hotels/countries.

It's not just the 15% - Many sites trace their users digitally, and even their physical location, even when not on their site. See Platformization: https://wikispooks.com/wiki/Platformization
