Perpetual War

The International Politics of Perpetual War

Whether or not the international relations described by Goldstein’s book are intended to be true or not in the context of Orwell’s novel, perpetual war is used to regulate both the international system and the societies within it.

Oceania, the superstate that governs the Americas, Australasia and the UK, exists alongside two other superpowers:

Eastasia (roughly China, Japan, Indochina and Central Asia) and

Eurasia (namely Russia and the European continent).

The three superstates retain their rough geopolitical shape by claiming to fight over disputed land, mainly in Africa, thus effectively rendering the war abstract and distant; it is also alluded that the states are simply too powerful to ever defeat one another – even with changing alliances – and also that there would be not advantage in doing so anyway.

Still heading for major war in West Africa, one group of countries against another, Russia's Wagner to possibly be involved

Deadline on the ultimatum is Sunday 6 August, tho the pro-Western coalition backed by France, says they will choose when to strike

Nigeria with its big army to lead the attack, but some Nigerians say this war may rip Nigeria itself apart, because:

- Nigeria's long-rebellious Muslim north is sympathetic to Muslim Niger
- Nigeria's army is poorly organised and equipped, without even decent transport for many of its troops
- Much of Nigeria detests the narrow oligarchy enjoying the oil revenues with Nigeria's recently-inaugurated President Tinubu, and multiple parties may move amidst war chaos

British arms sales report huge profits thanks to 'global de-stabilisation and Western foreign policies'

'BAE Systems announced that – during the first half of this year – its net profits soared with a 57 percent increase. The British arms industry giant reported its huge windfall on Wednesday.

BAE Systems stated its revenue swelled to 11 billion pounds, an increase of 13 percent, while profits after taxes increased to 965 million pounds ($1.2 billion) during the first six months of 2023. This is compared with 615 million pounds in the same period last year.

Chief Executive Charles Woodburn declared “Our global footprint… and leading technologies enable us to effectively support the national security requirements and multi-domain ambitions of our government customers in an increasingly uncertain world.”

In a separate video that accompanies the company’s earnings statement, he acknowledges the profits are directly related to global destabilisation and Western foreign policies, particularly those of London and Washington, aimed at Russia and China. Woodburn says “I’m particularly proud of our support to Ukraine… We’ve delivered an excellent set of results.”'
