The BBC falsely claims 48.8C is the hottest ever temperature in Europe, but in 1935, the NYTimes reported 52.8C (127F) in Spain

The BBC long ago lost its role as a 'fact-checked organisation'. No one with dignity, sanity nor intelligence sees the BBC as a trusted source any more.

There were dozens of triple figure temps in the 1930s. Go to the archives. Highest I've seen is 178 F in Saudi Arabia, but 117 in KS and Oklahoma was not unknown.
