Robert Halfon was born to Jewish parents: his mother, Jennifer, is of Ashkenazi descent, while his father, Clement, is a Libyan Jew from a Sephardic family who now lives in Israel. 

His paternal grandfather, Renato Halfon, was an Italian-Jewish clothing manufacturer living in Libya until he was forced to leave in 1968, after which he joined Clement in England.
