Moreover, why was this “failed” former health minister then ordered to stay on as “handler” to Truss’s successor, prime minister Rishi Sunak?

Why was this Europhile, tax-and-spend, “socially-liberal” and “politically centrist”, Tory “tail” mysteriously installed in No. 11 to wag the Brexit-backing, “socially conservative”, “right wing” dog that is the majority of Tory members and MPs?
