The co-founder of the Behavioural Insights Team – AKA the “Nudge Unit”, responsible for changing public behaviour via behavioural science and psychology – has today published an extraordinary op-ed slamming the government for abusing his team’s work during the pandemic, and “willingly convey[ing]” fear on the public to such an extent that it verged on “state propaganda”.

Writing in UnHerd this morning, Simon Ruda doesn’t hold back: “In my mind, the most egregious and far-reaching mistake made in responding to the pandemic has been the level of fear willingly conveyed on the public. Initially encouraged to boost public compliance, that fear seems to have subsequently driven policy decisions in a worrying feedback loop…

“Nudging made subtle state influence palatable, but mixed with a state of emergency, have we inadvertently sanctioned state propaganda? Behavioural science in policy can help us improve people’s lives, but we shouldn’t become complacent… to the potential for unintended harm” Ruda still has plenty of good to say of the Nudge Unit, although he adds that “focusing on “the science” [was] blinkered” during the pandemic. “We shouldn’t become complacent”, he says…

'The post-9/11 surge in Pentagon spending resulted in $14 trillion in Pentagon spending from 2001 to 2020, up to half of which went to contractors. The biggest beneficiaries by far were the top five weapons contractors, namely Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon, General Dynamics, and Northrop Grumman. These five companies alone have split $2.1 trillion in contracts since 2001.'

A quick look at the MOD budget shows that the amount spent on the UKs military is 'pound-for-pound' the same as they spent on Track and Trace.

Yup, apparently a 50p App and 12 thousand 'zero hour' contract employees 'patched' into the phone network sitting in their bedrooms working from home costs the same as the UK military.

39 Billion buys an army, an air force, a navy and a headquarters in Whitehall.

Employee 57,140 civilian staff (May 2018) 192,160 military personnel.

    Just another day in Babylon.

    Peace

The signature looks very man made. Looks as though the psychos are back to testing large ordinance underwater.

  14. Decline of Christianity matters to British Jews

The new Census could reveal that Britain is no longer majority Christian, changing everything

Decline of Christianity matters to British Jews

I’ve been looking forward to 2022 for some time. It’s a huge year for British Jewish research — the year in which the results of the 2021 Census will be released. And whilst that might not sound like a terribly thrilling prospect to most people, for us data wonks, it’s pretty much the most exciting thing to have happened for a decade. Don’t let anyone ever say we don’t know how to have fun.

The thing is, those data will tell us more about the British Jewish population than we have ever previously known. For just the third time in history, we’ll have access to a huge national dataset about British Jews that holds vast swathes of information critical to the future of our community. It will keep us busy for years, helping to answer numerous policy questions facing the Jewish charitable sector, and honestly, we can’t wait to get started.

But there’s one data point that causes me more unease than excitement. And it’s not even about Jews. Not at first sight, anyway. Yet it could have huge implications for the country as a whole — the kind of finding that could spark a major national debate, and potentially prompt considerable change across Britain.

    It’s about Christians.
