    All these primary colours remind me of something just recent. In the news. Thought you might find it of interest...

    The Muon g-2 experiment may be indicating something new and unknown, beyond gravitation, electromagnetism and the strong and weak nuclear forces.

    Beyond the Standard Model, Quantum Field Theory.

    Experimental error?

    Or fifth force of nature?

  2. Hmm, I really should follow up on the above.

    I don't want to give the impression that natural laws are somehow simple and neat. On the contrary, our models of physical reality just get more and more convoluted but hopefully describe the world more and more accurately.

    Now Newton's laws of motion are extremely simple. Maxwell's equations and even special and general relativity not too complicated.

    But Quantum Field Theory of the Standard Model is seriously mind-bending, even at the conceptual level, let alone mathematical. (It also makes predictions of extraordinary precision at the subatomic level, yet still can't explain the travels of the Earth, the sun and the moon. Nor an apple hitting you on the head.)

    A bongo player from New York did a good job explaining some basic ideas using squiggly pictures that he invented.

    Or this video gives an excellent summary of the ideas covering just the electron and photon fields, QED. The mathematics and computation behind it is quite spectacular.

    And this video gives a basic idea of all the fields of the Standard Model.

    But of course none of this answers a fundamental question.

    The world you observe. Is it a creation of your mind?

    Or your mind? Is it merely a creation of matter?

    Physicists prefer not to think about such things. You'll need to consult a metaphysicist.

    And other questions: Are you in base reality or a nested reality? Could we, through some as-yet un-thought-of ontological calculus, assign probabilities?

    Are metaphysical concepts, like love say, reducible to mere quantum field interactions? Or do they transcend specific physical law? Like the eternal truths of mathematics? True in all possible worlds.

    Surely it should be clear by now.

    If you think you this utterly deranged world is real, so improbably balanced on the razor's edge of a colossal, world-altering inflection point.

    1. Man, do I really need to follow up on my follow up?

      Maybe. Sort of an important proviso...

      Anyway, apart from gravity, there's another slight hiccough with the Standard Model. It makes quite a precise prediction about the end of the world. But don't start prepping yet.

      Specifically the world should collapse in on itself in one bajillionth of a second. Infinitesimally less than the blink of an eye.

      I've actually tested this myself. Several times.

      This is called the Vacuum Energy Catastrophe, or in hilarious understatement the Cosmological Constant Problem, as if it were some itsy-bitsy little inconvenience.

      This is reminiscent of the Ultraviolet Catastrophe that lead to Quantum Mechanics in the first place.

      Maybe this catastrophe will also lead to another quantum leap. People are boggling their minds on this stuff, but there is much contention as to the best approach, it seems.

      Ok, for one thing we expect quantized spacetime to manifest itself as minute differences in the speed of light for different colors.
        Balderdash. Matter clearly consists of tiny strings.
