ELECTION TURNOUT - BATLEY, WITNEY, TEXAS

In the UK, on 20 October 2016, a soap opera star won the by-election in the constituency of Batley and Sen.

Ex-Coronation Street star Tracy Brabin was elected MP for Batley and Spen, holding the seat for Labour in the by-election triggered by the murder of Jo Cox .

Turnout was 25% - one of the lowest by-election turnouts since the Second World War.

Also on 20 October 2016, the Conservatives help on to David Cameron's Witney constituency in a by-election, but with a majority reduced from more than 25,000 to 5,702.

The Green Party's Larry Sanders, brother of former US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, came fourth for the Greens.

Turnout was 47%.

Texas is known for low voter turnout. 

Fewer than 2 million of the state's 19 million adults voted in last year's primaries, and only 4.7 million voted in the general elections.
