Critically Christianity must be partially deconstructed and challenged to get back to the root of what it means to be 'religious' or 'spiritual' due to the undermining mentioned above.

Understanding 'Jesus' in it's purest form, regardless if he was an actual entity at that time or an amalgam of other old world heroes that fought an honest campaign against oppression and inequality, the concept remains true and sincerely frightens the establishment. In that way Jesus truly is the only way.
Learning the truth about who Jesus was or all of the other hyperbole like angels on the head of a pin should in no way take away from the strength Jesus message contained in understanding your position under the stars as a natural law sovereign.

Ancient Asian wisdom:
- Any religion claiming that some people go to an eternal no-exit hell, cannot be a true religion
- Any religion claiming to be the 'only one true way', cannot be a true religion
- Any religion imposing, or even positively speaking of required mutilation of babies or people (circumcision), cannot be a true religion
- Any religion seeking to spread itself by conquest or physical or psychological terror & fear-mongering, cannot be a true religion
- Any religion not respecting animals as fellow spiritual creatures, or not respecting harmony with nature, cannot be a true religion
- Any religion not offering you help to full liberation of mind & soul in your deepest psychology, cannot be a true religion
And also:
There are multiple ways to the divine, which you can freely choose among ... there is always always a way back toward God, you always get another chance (even if in next lifetime) ... there need never be any fear or terror that you are hopelessly 'lost', or doomed forever for some 'error' of not joining or believing something ... nothing good is ever 'lost'
Old Asian cultures had Enlightenment long ago, they were not slave-conquest cultures like Greece Rome and Jewish-Christian-Muslim societies.
There was essentially no slavery in ancient India, which had democracy long before Greece. Ancient India had modern tolerant sexuality (Kama Sutra, Temple of Khajuraho) ... University at Nalanda India lasted 1,700 years before Muslims destroyed it... (Ancient India was great, but India suffered over 1000 years of Muslim & Christian occupation still hurting it today - e.g, ancient 'caste' was gentler, there was intermarriage, caste mobility, no scorned 'untouchables')
Cyrus of Persia 2500 years ago decreed freedom of religion & efforts to end slavery in mid-East... Hindu Buddhist Daoist countries began ending the death penalty 2000 years ago ... at various times much of India, ancient China, ancient Japan abolished it

ReplyDeleteNever stay up on the barren heights of cleverness, but come down into the green valleys of silliness.
If you and I are to live religious lives, it mustn't be that we talk a lot about religion, but that our manner of life is different. It is my belief that only if you try to be helpful to other people will you in the end find your way to God.
What we cannot speak about we must pass over in silence.

Plotinus was a Greco-Egyptian neo-Platonist who (it has been alleged) had a great influence on early Christians and even Alexandrian Jews.
DeleteA movie made in 2014 might be cited as proof.
"Noah" was made by Darren Aronosfsky, descibed a some critics as an atheist Jew. Yet the film contains the most exhilirating scenes of Plotinus' "descent of the soul" ever put on film.
According to Plotinus, each of us is a Divine Being, but from time to time we forget this, and make our "descent" into matter. The film Noah quite movingly shows this artfully -- twice!
The first "descent" is made by the Nephilim (called "The Watchers" in the film) which are fallen angels that disobey the Creater in order to aid humans. The second "descent" shows Adam and Eve as creatures of light, eating the fruit and then descending to matter with physical bodies.
(Roman Catholics of the old school will recall this as a fair way to demonstrate the "preternatural bodies" Adam and Eve had in Eden.)
It may not be brilliant theology (and fundamentalist Christians hated the movie for departing from scripture). But as an illustration of an ancient metaphor that seems to predate most scriptures, many open-minded viewers found "Noah" to be an exceedingly ingenious during these sequences.
A very helpful book by psychologist Brian Hines called "Return to the One" describes Plotinus' Enneads in plain language for people trying to make the trip back "home" to their original Divine selves. Great mind-stretching!

DeleteI was not actually replying to your post (above) but somehow my comments on the movie NOAH was put there instead of as a stand-alone.
As it is I am not certain it's entirely inappropriate. The stories that became Religions belong to each and all, to use or ignore as we see fit.
Humans created the gods and on our way back there's no reason to hate the stories because of the Bad Apples who appropriated them for profit.
Banning the film "Noah" for all the wrong reasons
DeleteJewish director Darren Aronofsky has made a movie that he hopes will bring him in a lot of money. Getting banned in Arab countries helps his cause.
...
The Old Testament could perhaps be considered the most plagiarized book ever written. Hebrew 'scholars' robbed every old story and myth they thought would fit their narrative and made it their own. In that process they came to call themselves the 'chosen ones' and have convinced many of the gullible that it is a fact, much to the chagrin of the rest of the world.
From a sociological perspective, it must be stated that THE BIBLE IS NOT UNIQUE. It is a compilation of many myths coming from many parts of the world. All the cultures of the world share the same fables of creation, of the flood, of a magic garden, of the Tree of Life, of its primal couple, of the wise serpent, of the Heaven-piercing Tower (of Babel), of divided waters, of a chosen race, of virgin mothers, of saviours, etc. Scholarly research has shown that both texts of the Bible are quite recent and relatively corrupt derivations from the world-wide cycle of Gnostic Truism which has been labelled Archetypal Myths.. We see in the Bible the adoption of distorted myths attached to every saviour God of all cultures.

Can't be a coincidence that Mecca and Jerusalem are in Israel and Saudi Arabia. An archaeological discovery made by an Israeli professor is the same as a new ride in a theme park. How can we get the punters in?
ReplyDeleteCOMIC BIBLE SKETCHES
ReplyDeleteBy G. W. Foote 1885
Excerpt:
Those who object to any employment of satire on "sacred" subjects should not go beyond the Preface of this book. It is not for them, nor are they for it; and they are warned in the hall of what they must expect in the various chambers. But if they neglect the warning they should take the responsibility. It will be simply indecent if they turn round afterwards and assail us with unmerited abuse.
For the sake of those who proceed in a spirit of impartial candor and honest inquiry, we beg to offer a little further explanation.
We honestly admit that our purpose is to discredit the Bible as the infallible word of God. Believing as we do, with Voltaire, that despotism can never be abolished without destroying the dogmas on which it rests, and that the Bible is the grand source and sanction of them all, we are profoundly anxious to expose its pretentions.

then how do you idiots propose the caste system in india? - Surely God is there for all mankind and if one were to read religious texts, you will notice how hell is generally for the oppressors, tyrants etc. Religion is very leinet in many regards, but only a few read and know it. Otherwise it is no different then the bs you guys keep writing here to prove your own moral superiority.
ReplyDeleteThe 'caste system' exists in most countries, regardless of the religion adopted. In India, most of the top Hindus ignore the misery of the poorest Hindus. In the USA and Europe we have a feudal system in which the the upper class generally exploit the lower classes. In Buddhist Thailand many of the elite are corrupt and exploit the poor. In Moslem Pakistan the rich Moslems carry out their religious ceremonies in their palatial houses while ignoring the hungry and the sick. Jesus quite correctly said that we are all brothers, whether we are born to be a brain surgeon or a road sweeper.

A spiritual revolution has exploded on Youtube. Specially since some people send weather balloons without fish lens and others amateur rockets. People realized the image of space and earth are not the same as in the books, as in the news...The shock started, then the questions and month after month hundreds of videos that reveal how NASA manipulated, tricked us in ablolutely everything. All images of earth and space they gave to the world are artistic or computer generated, all videos from ISS are recorded on a plane or in swimming pools...People discovered that there is a limit in the sky that can't be crossed, there is really a "firmament" where all rockets bend or explode...it is unbelievable until you research it for yourself. It is a shock, you will not sleep for days. And guess the shape of our planet? Get ready to forget what this religion called "science" has programmed in our minds for so much time. A new era has started: the biggest conspiracy, the biggest lie ever is breaking down, people has started to see the real hints of our Creator with scientific experiments everywhere, at home, in the nature, with their cameras, telescopes...just to confirm the described cosmologies in the ancient scriptures around the world like the Bible, the Quran, the Puranas... All this time they were right and us laughing and thinking those were just myths and fantasies because our scientist had proof and we believed them without questioning.
ReplyDeleteNote: there are now so many videos and researches, some of them even confrontated which is ridiculous, but the message is don't follow any in special, just research yourself.
