New Atlantis was published and read all over european courts. But what if a 'real' book from that island could appear out-of-thin-air?
Once a researcher [*] found the parallels between the New Atlantis - this non-existent island that hosts a society dominated by science - and the Voynich Manuscript, is easy to imagine why the rosicrucian Rudolph II bought the Voynich Manuscript for the huge sum of 600 Ducats (2 kg of pure gold).
WHY: Let's ignore the ducats: a second, and much more important, mean ing for the manipulation was mind control on the Emperor. Putting the idea of a Salomon's House on top of an ideal society into the gullible ruler's head seems a great tactic to covertly control a great part of Europe (still center of the world at those times).
Skeptics could see at the "book that can't be read" as a perpetual enigma, and could read the ineffable scientific Carbon-14 tests published on big journals... To me the texts in this manuscript have barely any sense simply because this example of pseudobiblia was sold to Rudolph II, the royal puppet, AS A REAL PROOF of the existence of a scientific utopian island.
By buying this forged book he implicitly agreed with the veracity of New Atlantis and the fascination of the Scientific Dictatorship.
Many of the artifacts on the Manuscript are very similar to the first microscopes of those times. These tools were exclusively used by researchers close to kings and the unknown plants and figures seem like the first interpretations of what could be seen into marine water under such microscopes. If this test gets some minor interest, I'll gladly repost my impression on the rising new Theocracy involved here: Science.
