INDONESIA - DOLL - ANGEL

Anonymous -

'Indonesian villagers thought they had been blessed by an angel fallen from heaven when a beautiful doll washed up on a beach

Reports of a heavenly offering spread like wildfire through the community ... off the remote Banggai islands off Sulawesi in central Indonesia

Villager took the partially inflated doll to his home in Kalupapi village, where it was treated with great reverence

His mother gave the 'angel' a fresh change of clothes and new Muslim headscarf to wear every day, and pictures showed it sitting up in a chair and accompanying locals on a boat trip'

  1. However, back to the real world. They're Muslims, not morons. This is a fake pile of tripe with no basis in reality.

A sex doll or any type of doll would be considered......a doll. Simple reason any form of idolatry or exaltation would be considered haram from any Muslim regardless of what part of the world they reside.

A simple, crude attempt at making Indonesians look 'backwards' or stupid with a 'twist' of religion added for sensationalism is blatant racism I'm afraid to say.

The type of headline grabbing xenophobic rubbish in the Daily Fail is no real surprise. However, I would have expected better here.

    Not good enough!

  2. The story of the 'magic doll from heaven' has been a popular one in Indonesia, Indonesians are not looking down on the villagers living in an area with no internet, but rather understanding them with a smile. Here for example is an article in the native-language Bahasa Indonesian press about it, you can use a translate programme to read it. You see the English 'fun fact' phrase used.

Something unexplained, something that has charm and beauty in it ... may be indeed a sign from heaven, as Indonesians see it.

There are many styles of Islam, and the Indonesian style is a particularly gentle one, with a great deal of accomodation of traditional pre-Islamic Indonesian culture. Indonesians are not like Saudi Arabs.

In Islam as well as Christianity, there are spiritual beings, angels and djinn (which became the 'genie' of stories who grant you 3 wishes). Indonesian Muslims took their ancient gods and goddesses and re-identified them as spirits. So, for example, a god or goddess of the volcano is now a spirit.
