Patti Smith, 1979, did a powerful, haunting protest song about colonial oppressors, 'Broken Flag', the lyrics speaking of tragedy and dead children and 'marching toward Algiers' to liberate
In Algeria, where freedom from the French - 'the impossible' - was achieved in 1962
Much of the world is readying to 'march toward Jerusalem' now
This is from 1979, Patti Smith live, visibly emotional, singing 'Broken Flag' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5vLI8ukRYw
Some of the lyrics
She's darning and the land is weeping red and pale Weeping yarn from Algiers
Weaving though the eyes are pale What will rend will also mend The dream she weaves will never end For we're marching toward Algiers
Lullaby though baby's gone, lullaby a broken song We're still marching for Algiers The sifting cloth is weeping red a field of stars and tears we've shed
Film trailer for 1966 'Battle of Algiers' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhhoS3zOskE
At least there is one MP doing his job. I agree that anyone supporting WHO autocracy should be thrown out of Parliament and face the wrath of mobs entirely disinterested in THEIR human rights.
