Iconic tree in local beauty spot cut down. 16 Year old (who can't be named for legal reasons), allegedly arrested.
Calling fake news on this story too. The tree - definitely cut down. However, not by a 16 year old. You don't just 'rock up' to a giant ancient tree with a chainsaw and cut it down.
Tree surgeons are skilled, strong and able professionals when tackling a tree this size. I regularly use a chainsaw, however, my 'tiddler' wouldn't even touch the sides on a tree that size. It would take some serious sized saw (with an expert) to tackle a tree that size and not get killed.
Furthermore a child would probably not even be able to start the saw, if he managed it chances are after about 10-15 minutes using the thing , it would get jammed/stuck in the tree - irretrievably so. Able amateurs (like me) have all had a chainsaw stuck in a branch/tree etc.
