The BBC falsely claims 48.8C is the hottest ever temperature in Europe, but in 1935, the NYTimes reported 52.8C (127F) in Spain

  1. The BBC long ago lost its role as a 'fact-checked organisation'. No one with dignity, sanity nor intelligence sees the BBC as a trusted source any more.

  2. There were dozens of triple figure temps in the 1930s. Go to the archives. Highest I've seen is 178 F in Saudi Arabia, but 117 in KS and Oklahoma was not unknown.
