Censorship, Digital Services Act, Online Safety Bill

Jul 8, 2023

Anonymous has left a new comment on 'Threads, Twitter ...':

25 August 2023 is the date when big social media platforms will have to begin fully complying with the new EU, and thus potentially semi-global, censorship regime:

Norman Lewis, Spiked Online:

"The EU’s censorship regime is about to go global.

The authoritarian Digital Services Act (DSA) means the death of free speech online.

Under the DSA, very large online platforms (VLOPs) with more than 45 million monthly active users - like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Wikipedia – will have to swiftly remove illegal content, hate speech and so-called disinformation, or they will face fines of up to six per cent of their annual global revenue.

The EU can dictate how any company worldwide must behave if it wants to operate in Europe, the world’s second-largest market. As a result, its strict regulatory standards often end up being adopted worldwide by both firms and other regulators, in what is known as the ‘Brussels effect’."

Nick Corbishley, Naked Capitalism:

"When it comes to mass digital censorship, Washington DC is on a similar path to the EU. So too is the UK government.

If approved by the House of Lords, the Online Safety Bill would give telecoms regulator Ofcom the power to force chat app makers and social media companies to monitor conversations and posts before they are sent for what is permissible to say and send and what is not.

The ultimate decider of what constitutes mis- or dis-information, possibly not just in the EU but across multiple jurisdictions around the world, will be the European Commission.

That’s right, the EU’s power-hungry, conflict-riddled, Von der Leyen-led executive branch, that is in the process of dynamiting the EU’s economic future through its backfiring sanctions on Russia, and which is mired in Pfizergate, one of the biggest corruption scandals of its 64-year existence."

“I am the enforcer. I represent the law, which is the will of the state and the people.”
- France's EU Commissioner Thierry Breton

Amidst this frightening new censorship regime, one thing funny is the legal fact that starting 25 August, Wikipedia, founded and led by Tel Aviv University prize winner and ultra-Zionist Jimmy 'Jimbo' Wales, Wikimedia long the chief playground of Israeli & Western propaganda, will be 'required to remove hate and disinformation' ...

They will need to shut down a lot of that site LOL
