It's quite a sign of hope that, despite USA major media mostly either shunning RFK Jr, or bashing him as a 'disinformation conspiracy purveyor' -Kennedy's vax-sceptic, anti-war, and anti-militarism messages, are getting sufficiently through on alternate media, so that RFK Jr is polling near-even with Joe Biden, in shock poll results by top USA pollster Rasmussen.

"Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a 2024 Democratic presidential candidate and nephew of President John F. Kennedy, is nearly tied with President Joe Biden in a recent 'bombshell' poll.
The Rasmussen survey asked voters which candidate they would vote for in the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination.
President Biden earned the highest numbers, with 36% of respondents saying they would vote for him.
However, 35% said they would vote for RFK — only one point less than the current president."

RFK and Israel
ReplyDelete“Kennedy is most persuasive when opposing US military intervention abroad, or when he is discussing the humanitarian cost of the war in Ukraine, and calling for a peaceful settlement. But how seriously should we take his pacifism and human rights concerns?
“One hint rests in the blanket support he offers the Israeli government, one of the top recipients of aid from the US military industrial complex he decries, and a nation consistently unwilling to entertain peace with justice, while escalating tensions with Iran.
“Have a look at Antony Loewenstein’s latest, The Palestine Laboratory: How Israel Exports the Technology of Occupation Around the World, for an indispensable accounting.
“This position alone should cause Kennedy’s supporters to question his supposedly antiwar, anti-surveillance stance.”

You make a fair point, but it appears to me that any candidate that seeks election without such intrinsic support of Israel would have no chance of getting to the final presidential election.

ReplyDelete‘Central casting’: Trump is talking more than ever about men’s looks
…
“Trump, who infamously rated women’s looks on Howard Stern’s radio show prior to his campaign, has occasionally discussed women’s appearances while in office – sometimes to call them beautiful, sometimes to call them ugly.
“But the vast majority of his public words about looks as President have been admiring remarks about men, most often men in uniform …
Michael D’Antonio, author of a 2015 biography of Trump and a CNN commentator, said Trump has always prioritized appearances in his hires, filling Trump Organization offices “with people he deemed good-looking …”

NAOMI KLEIN
ReplyDeleteNaomi Klein is a columnist with The Guardian.
“[She] was born in Montreal, Quebec, and brought up in a Jewish family … Before World War II, her paternal grandparents were communists … In 1942, her grandfather, an animator at Disney, was fired after the 1941 strike …
“She is a former Miliband Fellow and lectured at the London School of Economics …”

Naomi Klein on ‘Holocaust pornography’
ReplyDeleteMost disturbing, said Klein, “is something known to Israeli women as ‘Holocaust pornography,’ where images of emaciated women near ovens, shower heads, cattle cars and the like are used to sell clothing and other products.”
Jewish women, she informed her readers, “are sexualized as Holocaust victims for Israeli men to masturbate over … the themes are fire, gas, trains, emaciation and death.”

NAOMI KLEIN ON ISRAEL
ReplyDelete“I wish to be saved from Israel,” she [said].
“I am a Jew against Israel — just as Israel repeatedly proves itself to be against me.”
…
As a college student in 1990, Klein wrote an editorial for the University of Toronto’s student newspaper The Varsity, entitled ‘Victim to victimizer’ …
Klein asked [people] to hate Israel on the grounds that “racism and misogyny” were “at the core of its being,” a society sick on “Holocaust pornography.”

A theory.
ReplyDeleteNaomi Klein is a conflicted individual ill at ease with her Jewishness. She struggles to make sense of her Jewish identity, and her other identities and beliefs, and reconcile them. She contains duelling impulses with respect to Israel and the Jewish people.
There is possibly some self-hatred going on.
I guess it’s difficult for Jewish people of conscience.
Naomi Klein would not be the first Jew to be trapped between, on one hand, loyalty to her people and ancestors, a desire to honour their sufferings and sacrifices, combined with a sense of personal vulnerability and even victimhood. Perhaps even a sense of gratitude and loyalty toward the state of Israel and Jews in general, whether fully conscious or less so.
And on the other hand, the desire to oppose oppression and injustice in whomever and wherever they may arise — including among Jews and in Israel.
I doubt Klein is a ‘bad person’. But let’s understand the self-conflicts that ‘basically decent’ people who identify as Jewish invariably must contend with, so that we can make sense of their often contradictory stances on Israel and Jewish crimes and misdemeanours.
