Iraqi Jew - Avi Shlaim - Three Worlds

Avi Shlaim is an Oxford Historian.

He is Jewish.

He was born, in 1945, in Iraq. 

Iraq in 1945, writes Shlaim, had 55 synagogues and no anti-semitism.

Shlaim writes that, in the 1950s, Mossad carried out bombings of Jewish properties in Iraq, and in Egypt.

Mossad's aim was to get the Iraqi and Egyptian Jews to move to Israel. 

Avi Shlaim and his family moved to Israel.

The Iraqi Jews were SEPHARDIC Jews from the Middle East, rather than Ashkenazi Jews from Europe.

Avid Shlaim writes that, in Israel, he and his fellow Sephardic Jews were treated as second class citizens and were constantly discriminated against.
