Family devastated by sudden death of popular Dumfries schoolboy

A family has been left devastated by the sudden death of a popular Dumfries schoolboy during a holiday in Florida. Sixteen-year-old Matthew Dunn from Southerness passed away last Monday on the dream trip with his dad Graham, step-mum Becky and brother Callum.

Rhonehouse author Alan Temperley shares his story in Galloway People

I didn’t think interviewing the author Alan Temperley would be a walk in the park – and so it proves. Chatting to him in his Rhonehouse home, it’s not as if he’s less than forthcoming, quite the opposite in fact. 

Alan can talk the hind legs off a donkey and laughs apologetically as one memory kindles another, the second more often than not bearing scant relation to the first. It doesn’t matter a jot.


Former GP makes impassioned plea Newton Stewart Hospital to be reopened

A former local GP has made an impassioned plea for Newton Stewart Hospital to be reopened. Dr Angela Armstrong addressed Cree Valley Community Council on Monday and won their support. She spoke at the meeting on behalf of Newton Stewart Hospital Action Group which is campaigning for the unit to be brought back into full use.
