ReplyDeleteI met a military medical doctor at a party, he was a captain of an infantry outfit in Afghanistan. He was a man of integrity and gave up his commission when his unit was ordered to guard poppy fields instead of burning them. Enough said .
ReplyDeleteI met a guy about a year ago. He was moving into a council flag after being homeless when coming back from Afghanistan -I think he said he was court marshalled.
DeleteAny way, he started talking about the poppy fields being guarded (he said that it's to do with a whole industry around it including employment for care and rehabilitation work). He said the units weren't always lead by their own officers, whether any of it is true, I don't know.
