In 1983 Dahl reviewed Tony Clifton's God Cried, a picture book about the 1982 Israeli invasion of Lebanon depicting Israelis killing thousands of Beirut inhabitants by bombing civilian targets.
Dahl's review stated that this invasion was when "we all started hating Israel", and that the book would make readers "violently anti-Israeli", writing, "I am not anti-Semitic. I am anti-Israel."[29]
Dahl told a reporter in 1983, "There’s a trait in the Jewish character that does provoke animosity ... I mean there is always a reason why anti-anything crops up anywhere; even a stinker like Hitler didn’t just pick on them for no reason."[29]
Dahl's charitable commitments in the fields of neurology, haematology and literacy continue through the Roald Dahl Foundation.[18]

Roald Dahl is best known nowadays for his children's stories, I think, but to my mind it's his short stories that will be remembered. They are incomparable. 'The Visitor' is perhaps the most exquisitely macabre story ever written.

ReplyDeleteEvery one of the short stories that Dahl claimed he wrote were stolen. Dahl stole all those short stories from John Collier, an English writer. Dahl would change each of the stories a little bit and then publish them as his. He was a thief of the lowest kind. Despicable scumbag.
