HOW A TOWN CAN PROSPER; MULHOUSE; DUMFRIES

....

Mullhouse is a city in Eastern France.

Mullhouse used to be considered 'grim', thanks to closed factories, closed shops and much poverty, unemployment and crime.

Mulhouse.

Mulhouse now has more shops opening than closing.

This is said to be due to 'smart planning, investment and community efforts'.

From bleak to bustling: how one French town solved its high street crisis

Dumfries in Scotland has no town council.

If a town or city is to flourish, it needs the following:

1. A powerful local government.

2. Investment in new local railways, motorways and other forms of transport.

3. A police force that is run locally and not run from some faraway city.

4. Banks and shops that are local and not run from some faraway city.

5. No damaging interference in local affairs by a spooky elite living in faraway cities.

Gaza.

What is happening in Gaza is also happening in other parts of the world.

But we are not meant to criticise.

  3. Stranger things Aangirfan. Oddly enough, I stayed in Mulhouse just a few weeks ago.

Are there similarities to Dumfries - perhaps. Mulhouse has two major attractions. The Schlumph Car Museum and the SNCF Train Museum. Both will attract visitors easily. The car museum is the biggest in the world and has over 100 Bugattis (if you like that sort of thing).

So, can attract visitors. There are a couple of new build hotels at the railway station and signs of inward investment dotted around.

Its not a bad wee town. An historic town square, nice eateries and little streets too. It didn't blow me away. However, it was not a bad place.

Mulhouse is on a major rail route connecting Germany, Switzerland and France too. TGVs stop at the local station. This ensures a stream of visitors can get to town okay.

Problem with Dunfries - it is almost the back of beyond and doesn't benefit from high speed rail, world class major attractions or nice weather. All of which along with being 'rusted to death' by the powers that be help conspire against Dumfries.

That said, Mulhouse also had major social problems with heavy on street drinking and rough sleeping. An all too familiar problem everywhere I go. When saying that, I'm thinking of the tent cities I have seen from Strasbourg to Hamburg and small towns like Mulhouse.

A remark I made to my wife (almost exclusively young white males). Something is wrong with that picture when clearly all the 'new inhabitants' were not rough sleeping and looked well cared for. I digress.

I think I commented before about 'death by a thousand cuts'. Dumfries like so much of the UK, Europe and the US has been invaded Kalergi style, looted by Private Equity and Rogue Governments and left in the past.

Not to worry too much though, if the Orange Zio-Mong in the Whitehouse gets his way and 'pulls off' a false flag in the Gulf and the Iranians block the Straights of Hormuz we could be looking at a new conflict that means we'll all be like Dumfries.

    Peace to the humans
