  2. Gee whiz, Aang, tenuous proposition. Palin goes to two places and 7~8 years later they go to shit? Um... okay.

To be honest, if one was to get forensic on Python and break it down as to who did what, I would declare that all the dark, mean spirited stuff belonged to Chapman and Cleese and all the speaking-to-our-better-angels stuff was done by Palin and Jones. Palin in his sketches was invariably the stammering innocent overtaken by an insane reality that he never quite got to grips with. Think Castle Anthrax or the Greasy Bastard (a trampship carrying rubber goods and things for the weekend between London and Rangoon).

Even now I'm shaking my head trying to picture Palin as wicked and I just can't do it. Frankly I'd have declared that if you ever wanted an image of the anti-Savile it'd be hard to go past Michael Palin.

Otherwise, how are you? Well, I hope.

    best etc.

  3. He is a talented man but surely John Cleese should be first in line for a knighthood among the Pythons?

  5. Palin is a lifetime membership BBC personality, from the early days of comedy to today. As I get older I am increasingly aware the BBC is an all encompassing warm bath of reality perception the English are so heavily emerged in they tend not to be aware of it. An obvious example is the Attenborough family, synonymous with exploring the planet and cross questioning politicians, delivering election results etc all under the guise of 'being on your side'.
The UK relies heavily on these trust totem personalities and they are so powerful the incredible revelations about Jimmy Saville - who was everywhere in the media and BBC for decades - have largely faded away. No one questions anything....

I sense everything from the Rolling Stones, Beatles, pirate radio being converted to BBC Radio One way back when were mechanisms to keep controlled assets in front of the public. Who knows how much more sophisticated this giant psyop is today...
Palin is one of the more benign controlled assets so far as we know, but it's not hard to imagine him being deployed, as a 'much loved, iconic and trusted BBC personality' etc etc to shape public opinion on an issue....
