First sight I got after disembarking to the beach boardwalk was a money exchange souk with Hassidic jews scurrying all over the place like termites. What a shame
ReplyDeleteCyprus introduced a tax in the 1970's on the British bases with historic repayments (alot of money), presently they were tax free - the British contacted their lacky's the Turks who were allowed to promptly invade right upto the British bases and not beyond - and this of course divided the island in half and the taxing of the British bases became a thing of the past.
ReplyDeleteBefore the financial 2012–2013 crisis - at least a month before it broke (around march) - HSBC would not pay me any money out - it had blocked all transactions thru Bank of Cyprus ATM's and others - when I got back to the UK I wrote to them and they said they would reply with a full investigation but never did. HSBC was fully aware ahead of time what was about to go down.
