In 1996, I went on an overland jaunt with a bunch of people across the Middle East from Egypt to Nepal. Bypassing Israel and Iraq. We had no trouble in any of the countries that we went through. Nothing, at all. I love Syria. It was a very barren place. A bit like the surface of the moon, and I loved it. Iran was lovely too. The people were extremely friendly. And this was the same all across the Middle East.
