I lived in Scotland for 10 years. Have a real love/hate relationship with the Scots (I am English by birth, Welsh by parentage). They're a very confident bunch, have a good education system ... but really ... not that different to everyone else, and have a real chip on their shoulder.
Also: Wales is more ... mystical than Scotland. I stood on the Preseli mountains once, and I could feel the mysticism there. (Stonehenge's blue stones came from this area, as did my father ... who wasn't blue). It was extremely spooky, and has been every time I've been there. You could almost sense Merlin or a band of druids coming towards you through the mist. Very eerie. In Scotland, all I felt was damp and cold. Nothing at all.
Anyway, did you know that whisky/whiskey was first brewed in the UK by the Welsh? (no, probably not).
Did you know that Guinness was stolen from the Welsh by the Irish? (no, probably not).
Forget Ireland and Scotland. Wales is where it's at. Better harp music, better eeriness, and the best poet since sliced bread (Mr Dylan Thomas).
Still you have to laugh, don't you? If you do, read the Scottish poet, William McGonagall. Hilarious!!
ps some say that Elvis Presley may have got his name from the Preseli Mountains, originally. His earlier folks coming from the Preseli area in Wales ... I can not confirm nor deny.

That was Diana Dors in Dumfries and Galloway, which is popular with celebrities. Don't know the details.
