I read a book years ago called, The Creation of Consciousness, Jung's Myth for Modern Man, by Edwards Endinger, a Jungian psychologist, where he said that God was gaining consciousness through mankind. As God was everything, said Edinger, he had nothing to be conscious of as he was both light and dark, hot and cold, evil and good, etc. (by the way, this is the Buddhist state of bliss where all opposites are at peace with other). But living creatures on earth suffered because they had to be aware of the opposites to be able to survive, like hot and cold, hungry and satisfied, good and bad, etc., and from this process and evolution man had developed self-consciousness.
Many Christians obviously didn't like this because they believed that God had no limits, and certainly did not need man to become conscious. But don't forget this is a myth, and by myth, Jung meant this was man's way of understanding the divine.
Anyway, from the research in the documentary, What is Reality, it seems that consciousness may have been there to start with at the beginning of time, although it still needs time to gain consciousness, but both can be there at once affecting each other, so it looks like Carl Jung was onto something.
Another good book is, Individuation and the Absolute, Hegel, Jung, and the Path Towards Wholeness, by Sean Kelly.
Hi Aan. We have been watching this group's videos on Youtube (bah) for over a year. As a species, the more of us there are, the greater the processing speed, the more we approach the Moment when, as a collective species, we become more than the sum of our parts and evolve. Think Tower of BABEL, reaching 'God" (ie having the capacity to build reality creating software and hardware capable of running billions of iterations, into which the conscious 'spirit' of the dying can be transmuted. Think of Russian dolls. Think of the urobouros, the snake swallowing its tail, and see from that the flow of a continuous stream of new "Gods", creating realities endlessly, as above so below. Would you want a series of lives in a perfect bubble, or prefer a series of lives involving excitement, pain and love, anger and friendship, closeness and familiarity and distance and strangeness? So, your reality was chosen by you. Happy lives. OLive xxx xxx xxx
Thanks for this thought-provoking which I very much enjoyed. My only reservation was regarding the claim that new physics and energy sources would "eliminate poverty..."
We already have plenty of energy and resources but they are unevenly distributed due to our political systems. While unelected elites dominate human affairs any new developments will merely add to their power.
What is reality? How about a compelling Youtube video for as long as it remains in our minds? The first video on E8 Matrix nabs consciousness for itself. I prefer Ed Witten's sage forbearance.
