For the Zen Buddhists, "wabi" is something that is simple and humble, and "sabi" means something that is not perfect.
Wabi translates to 'less is more'.
Wabi-Sabi means appreciating a quiet rainy day and the impermanence of all things.
In the 'perfect' game of golf you get a 'hole in one' at every hole?
That could get boring.
The advantage of adopting Wabi-Sabi is that it might make us less stressed.
"A wabi sabi relationship is one in which you deliberately accept each other where you are - imperfect, unfinished, and mortal.
"Appreciation for imperfections in others, and even in yourself, is the essential wabi sabi frame of mind."

Jesus could see the beauty in the lives of the poor, humble and rejected.

A beautiful and wise presentation Aangirfan.

Seconded!
DeleteRecently felt need to challenge and comment somewhere, that Christian contemplative and activist, writer and monk Thomas Merton, didn’t ‘turn everyone Zen’. Albeit, prior to his early death, began to wrestle with the upshot of meeting like-minded Zen counterparts. This exploration, a way of influencing and identifying his ‘faith’ from outside-Church believers. Reckon, need to get a bit… lot more... zen, myself. Somehow, new places of active rest. With respect and a smile, not what I meet here ‘n there and seems-so. Locks, rucksack and Indian fabrics. Can get all a bit dreamy hippy-dippy. Speak Z-like but cushioned, propped up, and underneath pushy. Scratch a bit and irritable come shallow. Not dat. Losing your rag over alternatives (one e.g. – what might the NWO be?). Sometimes, too often, looking-Zen, yet little able to stand any “vibes” but affirmation and agreement.
ReplyDeleteEarly morns, seem Zen. Like now. Sent me Merton. Found: http://www.thomasmertonsociety.org/wu.htm Suggesting; ‘he [Merton] was constitutionally unable to live in any realm other than that of freedom’. Oh yeah. Please. That’ll be the day. Zen on. Will do the WABI-SABI vids later. Thanks for the intro.
Bob Marley saw same dignity in lives of Trenchtown sufferahs.
