Professor John Curtice points out that only a minority of Conservatives supported 'Remain'.
'Remain' failed to win in the Conservative heartlands, such as South Buckinghamshire, Chichester and the New Forest.

The video is so good, I would liked to have seen the rest of it. I'll have to search around to find it.
ReplyDeleteLike a lot of you on the moderate Left here, I was stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea. But I eventually went for Out, I couldn't vote for that neoliberal bankers wet dream. Even with the uber neoliberals like Boris Johnson now going crazy we were in a straight jacket with the EU with no way out. At least we can throw Johnson and his team out when were get the chance.
No, you can't throw them out. They only get thrown out when they no longer serve the establishment. Look at every premiership since Thatcher and you'll see what I mean. And as the electoral system is rigged with an outdated system, you barely even get hobson's choice at the general election.
DeleteYou have no power, that is the reality, and the choice the other day was whether you wanted oversight of the corrupt British governing classes. Sadly, not enough people opted to have it, and we're already seeing the shambles that that decision is causing.
I keep changing my mind about whether I did the right thing or the wrong thing by voting out. I'm pro Europe so I felt sad at us leaving. But the choice we had was neoliberalism which was going to destroy social democracy anyway, or the Looney right, Johnson and Forage. The prominent Left have all been taken over by neoliberals and so there was not a genuine anti neoliberal stance, except by getting out and voting a non neoliberal Labour Government into power.
DeleteWhat is sad is that we never be part of Europe again except now they are discussing a compromise, a soft Brexit, where we are part of Europe but a little bit out. When the whole of Europe goes like this it might be better for all of us. We keep the Pound and our distinctive British culture, while reaming part of a new non neoliberal Left Europe.
Anyway, try this article by Jonathon Cook:
Brexit and the diseased liberal mind
http://www.jonathan-cook.net/blog/2016-06-26/brexit-and-the-diseased-liberal-mind/
Here's a bit of it:
The enraged liberal reaction to the Brexit vote is in full flood. The anger is pathological – and helps to shed light on why a majority of Britons voted for leaving the European Union, just as earlier a majority of Labour party members voted for Jeremy Corbyn as leader.
A few years ago the American writer Chris Hedges wrote a book he titled the Death of the Liberal Class. His argument was not so much that liberals had disappeared, but that they had become so coopted by the right wing and its goals – from the subversion of progressive economic and social ideals by neoliberalism, to the ethusiastic embrace of neonservative doctrine in prosecuting aggressive and expansionist wars overseas in the guise of “humanitarian intervention” – that liberalism had been hollowed out of all substance.
Liberal pundits sensitively agonise over, but invariably end up backing, policies designed to benefit the bankers and arms manufacturers, and ones that wreak havoc domestically and abroad. They are the “useful idiots” of modern western societies.

DeleteOne bunch of corrupt cunts overseeing another bunch of corrupt cunts makes sense to you ?
Kalvey 00:14. Your use of 'Europe' when you are talking about 'the eu' is a HUGE part of the problem.
DeleteI like Europe. I detest the eu.
If you are unaware, or just don't care, about your use of language, expect confusion and discord.
Some say we're now at the mercy of the Tories but the EU never did much for us anyway, otherwise more would have cast a vote to stay; besides, that's like saying having two enemies is better than having one. Because we did have two enemies, the EU and our own parliament, and now we've cast one off we can concentrate our efforts on reigning in the excesses of the other.

ReplyDeleteThere is too much money at stake for Britain to leave the EU, not least belonging to the rich and powerful. The silence from the main players this weekend suggests to me the outcome will be either a) Endless procrastination a la Chilcott until the whole issue is overtaken by other events or b) Wait for major concessions from the EU and a second referendum or c) Political or economic collapse in this country, leading to the election of a pro-EU party on the manifesto pledge of ignoring the referendum result
ReplyDeleteI don't believe the UK will leave the EU on a 52% vote.

Amazing how you avoid the news about hundreds of Europeans being attacked, insulted in the UK. My building was attacked, my British neighbour has brutally stabbed me and hurt my family and the police is doing absolutely nothing. Shame on you! Are you going to stick on us a David Star with the letters EU on it??? Have you already the guillotine and your concentration camps ready? What else? My dear, we worked here during years, paying taxes, being totally transformed into the British culture, we never had benefits, had private doctor and you are sending us out! Are you insane? My children were bullied at school just for their surname. Congratulations you're giving Satan the happiest days of his existence, it's just what he always wanted to separate Europeans and start WWIII
