TRUMP, SANDERS, CLINTON - BANKERS, JOBS OFFSHORED, TAXES

Ivanka Trump

The US election will probably be decided on the issue of the economy.

1. "The US economy died when middle class jobs were offshored and when the financial system was deregulated.

"The offshoring of US manufacturing and professional service jobs to Asia stopped the growth of consumer demand in the US and decimated the middle class."

The Us Economy Has Not Recovered and Will Not Recover - Paul Craig Roberts‎

2. Bernie Sanders believes that free trade agreements like NAFTA, Permanent Normal Trade Relations with China, and the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement have allowed too many American jobs to move overseas.

Bernie Sanders.

170 top economists have endorsed Bernie Sanders' platform regarding Wall Street, signing a letter stating:

"The Senator is correct that the biggest banks must be broken up and that a new 21st Century Glass-Steagall Act, separating investment from commercial banking, must be enacted."

Economists Say.

Trump inherited a fortune. He would have made more money if he had invested it with businesses other than his own.

"We don't have free market capitalism anymore in the U.S. (and the big banks are largely responsible).

3. "Thomas Piketty, perhaps the most influential economic thinker of the left in the Western world, is impressed by the rise of Sen. Bernie Sanders...

"Piketty ... sees Sanders ....leading the United States toward a possible return to the nation's pioneering 20th century experiments with extremely progressive taxation and social spending...

"Piketty points to the fact that, prior to Reagan, 20th century fiscal policy in the U.S. was aggressive in taxing the wealthy - much more so than the European counterparts...

"From 1930 to 1980 ... the rate for the highest U.S. income (over $1 million per year) was on average 82%...

"Those rates ... played a tremendous role in creating social equality and helped provide crucial government revenue for robust social programs..."

World's Most Famous Economist.

"Reagan ... lowered the rate for the highest incomes to 28%...

"'Sanders' success today shows that much of America is tired of rising inequality and these so-called political changes, and intends to revive both a progressive agenda and the American tradition of egalitarianism,' Piketty wrote.

World's Most Famous Economist.

4. Donald Trump does not want to ban credit default swaps or collateralized debt obligations.

Trump has said that the federal minimum wage should not be increased because wages are already too high.

Trump wants to abolish the estate tax (FDR’s oligarch tax).

Trump wants the top rate on income to fall from about 40% to 25%, 'meaning a tax bonanza for the rich and super-rich'.

Those in the top 0.1% would see their taxes reduced by an average of $1.3 million, or 19% of their after-tax-income.

Trump’s program would increase the federal deficit by just under $10 trillion in the first decade, and then by $15 trillion in the second decade.

5. "Hilary Clinton was actually a Young Republican right up until 1968
"She was even a supporter of Republican Presidential candidate Barry Goldwater, who voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964."

Here's What Bernie Sanders Actually Did on the Front Lines of the Civil Rights Movement.

  3. Something has got to be done about the über rich, no one should be allowed to become a billionaire or anywhere near it. People with this much money can control governments and harm our society. If someone comes in my house and attacks me I will expect the police to do something about it. If the mega rich wreck our country to make themselves fortunes then they should expect the law to act in our interest.

The mega rich have every right to do as to wish with their money, and they can offshore their companies to china if they desire because we are free in this country. But we, the public, should also be allowed to have a real democracy and be able to put reasonable tariffs on cheap goods brought in from china and elsewhere which destroys British jobs.

Some will argue that the cost of consumer goods, like electronics, will go up. But should we be buying goods made by slaves and desperate children in third world countries? Increasing automation will bring prices down.

The über rich are the master devil and they will say that by putting stiff tariffs on imported products poor people in the rest of the world will suffer. But if they are really concerned about the poor then why not have a wealth tax at 95% on people that earn £millions per year to help the poor in the rest of world and in our own country.

The 'meritocracy' is right wing propaganda and economists are the agents that are used to spread this neo-fascism. Economists preach about benefits of the meritocracy and say that if people work hard enough they can get themselves out of poverty. But the very poor who work on the plantations in many third world countries can work all the hours that God sends but they still won’t have any money to be able to get anything going.

The so called ‘meritocracy’ is BS, but like all propaganda there is a little bit of truth to it. If you are poor you are told to work very hard and if you’re lucky you can start your own business too. And then you have the right to abuse people below you because you are told that you are providing them with jobs and that they would starve and be homeless unless you gave them work, but the system allows them no other way to look after themselves as they can't go back to the country and grow their own food because other people, mainly the rich, have taken all the land. In desperation, they are forced to work in conditions that anyone else would find depressing, and many are on antidepressant drugs.

The ruling class have used propaganda to make people believe that the poor are poor because they don't work hard enough. But unemployment is engineered into our economy on purpose by our rulers to keep wages at rock bottom and so it doesn't matter how hard we all try, someone has to fall to the bottom. No wonder some give up?

The libertarians and ordinary conservatives are fools who allow themselves to be hoodwinked by the ruling class. Perhaps they don't care and that they really like to über rich to have it all because their philosophy is built around the 'meritocracy', which is the propaganda that the over class have spent £millions on to get us to keep working harder and to blame ourselves when we fail, rather than blame the system which is rigged by them and stacked against ordinary people.

Schoolchildren are constantly graded to make them feel like failures so they will blame themselves when they aren't successful after leaving school. All through life they taught to accept their lot and not complain. They are told that the rich are rich because they are clever and they are poor because they are not. This keeps the masses in their place and very subservient. Some will even gladly go to war and die for the ruling class who they they idol and honour.

    1. Excellent comment, I agree with every word.

I'm waiting for someone to write the 'British version' of a book by American author Thomas Frank, called 'What's the Matter with Kansas?'

As far as I can recall, Kansas is chosen for the study not because it has unique characteristics, but rather because its demographic characteristics are quite average for a state in the American heartland.

The author sets out to discover why such large numbers of Americans living in the heartland states (i.e. away from the atypical regions of the East and West coasts, the Deep South and Texas) consistently vote against their own economic interests, in favour of right wing (i.e. often Republican) candidates.

The author's focus is on voters living on middle or low incomes, who (objectively) would seem to do a little better economically when Democrats are in power... unions a little stronger, rules on obtaining unemployment support a little gentler, slightly higher funding of public education and social services, etc. etc.

Why do middle and lower income citizens 'shoot themselves in the foot' by voting for right wing politicians whose goal and effect is to redistribute income from the middle and bottom of society to the elites 'at the top'?

And the author's conclusion (as far as I can recall) is that this occurs because Republican candidates ramp up 'Culture Wars' rhetoric as a very effective sideshow. Instead of trying to persuade poorer and less educated voters about the virtues of losing their public services, giving more money to the rich, and seeing more of their jobs relocating overseas, the wily Republican will instead bang on relentlessly about 'Culture War' issues like Dangerous Immigrants / Evil Muslims / Unchristian Same-sex marriage / Too Many Spanish Speakers / Too Much Gun Control / the Persecution of Christians / Obama too Smart for his Own Good, etc.

Obviously the reasons why a large number of middle-class and poor Brits reliably vote for the Conservative Party (or Right Wing Blairites) is a bit different. US -style 'Culture Wars' don't exist in the same way in this country. But there is definitely some crossover.

A lot of people who would be expected to do slightly better under a Corbyn-esque government will nevertheless vote for the Tory candidate at the next General Election. These middle-income and poor people will be voting against their own self interest, to extend the privatisation of schooling (which will harm their children's educations)... for higher Defence spending (which will mean increased 'rationing' NHS care and social services)... for lower taxes on the wealthy (leading to huge cutbacks for meals on wheels, Dial-a-Ride, home help, and subsidised buses for the elderly)... for an ever-inflated monarchy (municipal libraries and swimming pools closing down for good, likewise Sure Start centres, potholes in the roads, prisons dangerously overcrowded) ... all so that the top 1% can pay even less tax, and 'earn' even more!

Why do Brits who vote Tory, Lib Dem, or 'Blairite', and who aren't rich, choose to hurt themselves, when we don't have the US 'Culture Wars' to the same extent?

I guess there are any number of factors and influences we could point to. From 'Murdoch Media' and the pro Israel, pro monarchy, pro establishment BBC, to the enduring class system in which we're all taught to 'know our place' and dream of one day being 'recognised' for services to apathy and obsequiousness with an absurd 'honour' from mad betty (who'd have the clothes of our backs if she could).

    2. I guess to a large extent that factors that build the political identities of Brits are a result of 'divide & rule' propaganda and conditioning from the establishment.

The daily subtle pushes we receive without even be aware of it... to look down on the Third World and people of colour... to be more selfish, competitive and acquisitive... to fear different religions... to obsess about standards in education as determined by 'grades' and 'marks' and 'qualifications'. What a wretched and destructive game they have so many of us playing.

While we're all running around like headless chickens, each of us trying to get 'one up' on everyone else to prove our 'worth', the richest 1% are left completely unaccountable and unmonitored.

While the 99% are obsessing about mythical Romanians in 15 bed Mayfair mansions, the 1% get on with stealing even more of the earth's wealth unimpeded. How they must laugh at us! Or are we even beneath their contempt?

    3. Many thanks. I'll write a post on this soon. Thomas Frank gets it correct.
