I have complete respect for principled opposition to the death penalty, but I would seriously question the ethics and motives of Sidney Jones. Sidney Jones , formerly of the International Crisis group has spoken fro more than a decade about the perils of Indonesian jihadists without breathing a word about the involvement of domestic and foreign intelligence agencies When the three Bali bombers were to be executed, Sidney Jones offered not a word of opposition to the death penalty indicating that her opposition to the death penalty is piecemeal and opportunistic. This is the strongest "criticism" of the death penalty Sidney Jones could manage prior to the execution of the Bali bombers,
ReplyDelete"That said, I think it's important for viewers to understand that the death penalty and the execution of these three men is not gonna solve the problem. It's not going to significantly alter the problem of terrorism in Indonesia. And nobody should see the death penalty as a measure of whether or not the Indonesian Government is doing its job on terrorism." She merely states it will make no difference.
On the other hand the release of the Arsenic assassin is a big deal and a very worrying sign. The appearance of partiality and injustice is unmistakeable.
This was very interesting, thanks, time will tell. .
