Mike Norden does not like quotes from the Bible taken out of context.

  1. “It ain't those parts of the Bible that I can't understand that bother me, it is the parts that I do understand.”

  2. Voltaire Quotes

Every sensible man, every honorable man, must hold the Christian sect in horror.

May we not return to those scoundrels of old, the illustrious founders of superstition and fanaticism, who first took the knife from the altar to make victims of those who refused to be their disciples?

But that a camel-merchant should stir up insurrection in his village; that in league with some miserable followers he persuades them that he talks with the angel Gabriel; that he boasts of having been carried to heaven, where he received in part this unintelligible book, each page of which makes common sense shudder; that, to pay homage to this book, he delivers his country to iron and flame; that he cuts the throats of fathers and kidnaps daughters; that he gives to the defeated the choice of his religion or death: this is assuredly nothing any man can excuse, at least if he was not born a Turk, or if superstition has not extinguished all natural light in him. [Referring to Muhammad]

To pray to God is to flatter oneself that with words one can alter nature.

The Jewish nation dares to display an irreconcilable hatred toward all nations, and revolts against all masters; always superstitious, always greedy for the well-being enjoyed by others, always barbarous — cringing in misfortune and insolent in prosperity.

Whatever you do, crush the infamous thing, and love those who love you.
Letter to Jean le Rond d'Alembert (28 November 1762); This was written in reference to crushing superstition, and the words "écrasez l'infâme" ("Crush the Infamy") became a motto strongly identified with Voltaire.

Formerly there were those who said: You believe things that are incomprehensible, inconsistent, impossible because we have commanded you to believe them; go then and do what is unjust because we command it. Such people show admirable reasoning. Truly, whoever is able to make you absurd is able to make you unjust. If the God-given understanding of your mind does not resist a demand to believe what is impossible, then you will not resist a demand to do wrong to that God-given sense of justice in your heart. As soon as one faculty of your soul has been dominated, other faculties will follow as well. And from this derives all those crimes of religion which have overrun the world.

Alternative condensed translation: "Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities".

Ours is assuredly the most ridiculous, the most absurd and the most bloody religion which has ever infected this world.

All of the other people have committed crimes, the Jews are the only ones who have boasted about committing them. They are, all of them, born with raging fanaticism in their hearts, just as the Bretons and the Germans are born with blond hair. I would not be in the least bit surprised if these people would not some day become deadly to the human race.

  3. “It is from the Bible that man has learned cruelty, rapine, and murder; for the belief of a cruel God makes a cruel man.”
― Thomas Paine, The Age of Reason

“I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the Turkish church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my own church.

All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian, or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions set up to terrify and enslave
mankind, and monopolize power and profit.”
― Thomas Paine, The Age of Reason

“Of all the systems of religion that ever were invented, there is no more derogatory to the Almighty, more unedifying to man, more repugnant to reason, and more contradictory to itself than this thing called Christianity. Too absurd for belief, too impossible to convince, and too inconsistent for practice, it renders the heart torpid or produces only atheists or fanatics. As an engine of power, it serves the purpose of despotism, and as a means of wealth, the
avarice of priests, but so far as respects the good of man in general it leads to nothing here or hereafter.”
― Thomas Paine, The Age of Reason

“The Christian religion is a parody on the worship of the sun, in which they put a man called Christ in the place of the sun, and pay him the adoration
    originally payed to the sun.”
    ― Thomas Paine

“My country is the world, and my religion is to do good.”
    ― Thomas Paine

“The whole religious complexion of the modern world is due to the absence from Jerusalem of a lunatic asylum.”
    ― Thomas Paine

  4. GOD (truth, love and understanding within oneself) is not cold, merciless, judgemental, brutal, barbaric, cruel, unfair, unjust... but the LAWS OF NATURE are though.
People seem to have a difficulty differentiating between the two.

  5. There's theological context. Another is the personal. Ask the God - who claims to be - revealed through the Bible, through Jesus; to speak, to give understanding, to be present, to help.

Read the Bible, talk to the God (you may not be sure is there/here) and see what happens.

There's a spectrum of views within evangelical ('conservative') Christianity. Open theism to Calvinism, accepting LGBT to not, conditional universalism to .... etc.

If God IS great and wants to bring freedom and love to this world through our engagement and action - why not sincerely seek..? And let's see what you, we, might find.

    1. Mike, perhaps you can employ logic and critical thinking skills in a study of Bible contradictions with your friends:

  7. When one understands the bible, and takes it to the pastor or member of the church.
Instead of doing what the verses say and being happy with it they get mad and say"Get outta my face"avoid one.

Verses such as john 14:6,John 10:1-10,Galatians 3:14,Galatians 3:26-29,2 Cor.5:18-19.(Verses are the Answer to the Chosen People Question and War) and let's not forget John Chapter 8,I would strongly recommend to anyone read that Chapter thoroughly.

You can say what you want about The Bible but I chose to defeat the Zionists by using their own books and words against them.
