Must admit, missed this scanda...Important exposure. Must admit, missed this scandal. Evangelicals sadly fair similar to the wider community regarding failure and crimes. You rightly identify the need to recongise our shadow-side. One key to this particular church group/school of thinking, is in their name. First and foremost ‘sovereign’ and a New Calvinism, their acronym TULIP, taken to new lengths and bad-behaviour blindness. Thus, beating the ‘total depravity’ out of some poor young-un, is all in God’s unfolding/meant to be, plan. And there’s more unhelpful and theo-excusing vulnerabilities - but I’m learning to keep my contributions brief.<br /><br />Secondly ‘grace’. This combines with the weight of thinking in this piece. A wholeness through knowing our needs. And here, receiving the ongoing more-good, we all need.<br /><br />Grace obviously doesn’t condone or tolerate abuse but if Christians put grace before any notions of sovereignty, by logical definition, the emphasis would be on responsibility not fate.
