TRUMP'S SUPPORTERS

Trump's main supporters are the poor whites in places such as Ohio.

"Over the last ten years, manufacturing output has grown more slowly in the United States than in Japan and Germany."

(Manufacturing output, measured in each country's local currency adjusted for inflation).

U.S. Manufacturing in International Perspective

America spends 5.8 times more on its military than China, 10.2 times more than Russia, and 98.6 times more than Iran. Trump wants a huge increase in military spending.

Japan and Germany have avoided wars.

The problems with manufacturing in the USA began in the 1960s, when the USA got involved in the Vietnam War, a war which Trump supported.

"Starting in the mid-1960s cities like Cleveland, Detroit, Buffalo, Niagara and Saint Louis have experienced a steady decline of the blue-collar workforce ...

"The rust belt has experienced high unemployment, poverty, and urban blight."

A Trump Supporter. Pence said: "The US needs to be prepared to strike military targets of the Assad regime..."

The Vietnam War began in 1965, and the USA has been spending vast sums on wars ever since.

"The military cost of the Vietnam war as a percentage of GDP was 9.5% in the peak spending year of 1968."

The Vietnam War meant that the USA failed to increase investment at home, and failed to see a rise in GDP.

ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES of WAR on the U.S. ECONOMY.

Edward Luce has written about the life and death of Trumpian America.

According to Edward Luce:

1. Mortality rates for America's blue-collar (working class) whites have been soaring.

In 1970, low income middle age men had an average life expectancy five years below that of high income men of the same age.

By 1990 that gap had risen to 12 years.

The latest estimates put it at almost 15 years.

2. Increasingly, employers want people with a college degree, or a very specific skill.

3. One in six US prime age blue-collar males are now out of the labour force - a higher share than for any wealthy nation except Italy.

More than half of those are on prescription painkillers, according to Alan Krueger, a Princeton economist.

Of these, two-thirds are on opioids.

4. Trump's cure - 'Americanism' - would be worse than the disease.

Workers would be hit by price rises in the shops.

Trump would not be able to reopen coal mines and out-of-date factories.

Trump's tax cuts would drastically worsen inequality.

5.  Poor white America is trapped in a culture that rejects self-help, disdains education and is prone to family break-up.

Some poor whites ostracise the studious as gay.

Unemployment rates:
 United States5.0
 Germany4.5
 Japan3.0
 Iceland3.2
  Switzerland3.6
 Singapore1.9
6. If America were Singapore, it would shift people into mixed-income communities.

The closer your proximity to higher achieving groups, the greater your chance of moving up.

The life and death of Trumpian America.

Answer this question. Who does the media (and therefore their backers) vote for?

The potential problem with this question is that media doesn't really goes into Trump's real background and connections (alternative media included), it's more like popular divisive, theatrical kind of issues that are being presented, and thereby actually giving Trump 'street cred' of being a figure who's against 'them'. It's a game.

LOL I think a lot of Americans think studying is gay,not just poor whites. Further a culture that celebrates the Kardashian ethos isn't exactly intellectual..in the large deteriorating(except for the gated communities where said celebrities reside) ,the only average types reading on the bus or waiting in offi es are Russians. They read real books too.

Hi Aangirfan,

Reality as always is more nuanced.

Maybe you can show more about other Trump supporters. They're not all white disaffected working class.

For example, this young lady from Youngstown.

And let's get it straight, when you vote, you're not voting for either Hillary or Trump. You're voting for their donors.

Hillary's donors are overwhelmingly the mass murdering Wall Street plutocracy and their mass media buddies, who evidently have it in for Trump, lying through their teeth to the American people and to the world. Oh, and the Clintons are also friends of resources traders who profit from ISIS blood oil. (Ah, fond memories of their good friend Marc Rich. Wonder where he is now.)

Whereas Trump has a very high proportion of contributions directly from the American people.

It's worth reading a couple of articles by John Pilger and Paul Craig Roberts.

If you choose Hillary, you know you're choosing war and death. And globalist kleptocracy, despite what she says. And you know where her orders come from. Yes, Larry Fink of Blackrock, if you've been paying attention.

If you choose Trump, well, it's less clear. He's openly stated he does not want war with Russia, he questions the value of NATO, he opposes TTIP and TPP.

Personally, if I had to choose between Hillary and Trump, I'd choose Jill Stein.

If only because she promises a new investigation into the murder of thousands of New Yorkers in 2001. And maybe she can take a close look at Larry S's friends, Herb Wachtell and Michael Mukasey, while she's at it. What's worse, mass murder or abetting barefaced profiteering from mass murder? And closer look at the biggest donor to the 911 Memorial, the shameless Maurice Greenberg, thinking he's safe on the chairman of the Starr Foundation there. "Hank" to his friends, God help them.

Jill Stein's very unlikely to win, but a vote for Jill is mostly a vote taken away from Hillary. And a vote for something new, not the entrenched corruption.

As for Trump's support for weapons manufacturers, Hillary's absolutely no different on this front.

Until the world is at peace, America has legitimate defence needs. Though I'm not sure it qualifies as legitimate defence, for instance, to drop fire from the sky on Yemeni children.

In this world, there's a simple rule: do unto others as you would have them do unto you. But some pleasant people like Norman Augustine wish to learn moral conduct the other way in their next destination: it will be done unto you as you have done unto others. Mathematically perfect justice.

I would not do God's work well.
I pray the devil come and take me down
To the fiery furnaces of hell."
